A court in Paris has convicted ten people for engaging in the digital intimidation of Brigitte Macron, the wife of France's leader, Emmanuel Macron.
The those on trial faced charges of spreading untruths regarding her gender identity and sexual orientation, in addition to posting malicious remarks about the pair's significant age difference.
The court delivered suspended prison sentences of up to eight months to the convicted individuals. The detailed judgment has yet to be released.
A longstanding false narrative claiming that Brigitte Macron is a trans woman has spread widely since her husband's first electoral victory in 2017.
This recent ruling in France coincides with the Macrons initiating a legal action for defamation in the United States of America against conservative commentator Candace Owens, who has likewise promoted similar conspiracy theories about the Brigitte Macron's identity.
Their complaint states that Owens brushed aside substantial counter-evidence disproving her claim opting to amplify the voices of notorious conspiracy peddlers.
Owens has frequently reiterated these claims on her digital program and social media channels, and in March 2024 proclaimed that she would bet her whole career on her conviction that Mrs. Macron is in fact a man.
Brigitte Macron originally became acquainted with her future husband when she taught at his lycée.
The couple entered into matrimony in 2007, when the then-29-year-old Emmanuel Macron was 29 and she was approximately 54 years old.
