Crowds also overwhelmed nearby roads and tried to enter parliament, where the administration had initially planned the public viewing.

Political Impact and Ethnic Support

While predominantly identified as an government critic, Odinga assumed the role of prime minister in 2008 and also established a political pact with the leader last year in a political journey defined by shifting alliances.

He generated passionate devotion among adherents, particularly in his ethnic group based in western Kenya, many of whom maintain he was denied the highest office by election irregularities.
